Basic Information

Duration: 1 academic year (Master 2)

The University of Nantes offers a unique research centre in maritime law and safety, providing students with a specialized training in this field, with two courses, one in law and the other on safety more specifically.

If you wish to become a professional or a lawyer specialized in maritime activities, the law course is for you. As for the safety course, it allows you to train maritime affairs administrators in charge of ship safety.

The DSAMO Master functions in partnership with ENSAM (École Nationale Supérieure des Affaires Maritimes) and ENSM (École Nationale Supérieure Maritime).

Employment opportunities

At the end of the master's programme, several sectors are open to graduates, in the private or public sector:

  • companies related to maritime activities: maritime shipping companies, maritime and transport insurance companies, maritime port professions (transport commission, transit, maritime handling company), ship classification societies.
  • General administrations or administrations dedicated to maritime activities.
  • Lawyers, maritime insurance companies, design offices.

For those who wish to go on with their studies:

  • Doctoral thesis in law, for professional or academic purposes.
  • Law schools. School of maritime affairs with the assistance of maritime affairs administrators

International dimension

  • International partnerships: Trainmar Centre in Dakar and the Regional Academy of Marine Sciences of Abidjan within the framework of the UN e-Sea Regional Programme - Digital University of Marine Sciences.

Admissions: students are selected based on their applications and after a potential interview or through the "concours" (competitive-entrance exam) for administrators in maritime affairs (this exam is organised by the École des Affaires Maritimes).

Patrick Chaumette is Professor Emeritus. A specialist in labour law, he started working for the University of Nantes in 1983 as a lecturer and then as a professor in 1992 in the team of Professor Alain Supiot.
